CLAT - PG & CLAT - UG 2026 Notification

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has officially released the notification for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2026 for admission to Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) law programs.

Key Highlights:
  • Exam Date: Sunday, December 7, 2025
  • Exam Mode: Offline (Pen-and-Paper Based)
  • Timing: 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM
  • Application Window: August 1, 2025 – October 31, 2025
Application Fees:
  • ₹ 4,000 – General, OBC, PwD, NRI/PIO/OCI
  • ₹ 3,500 – SC/ST/BPL candidates
  • CLAT 2026 will be held across more than 130 test centres nationwide.
  • The exam scores will be used for admission into participating National Law Universities (NLUs) and other affiliated law schools.

FAQs

CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the Consortium of NLUs for admission to 5-year integrated UG law programs (LL.B) and 1-year PG law programs (LL.M) at participating National Law Universities.

CLAT 2026 will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, in offline (pen-and-paper) mode.

Applications will open on August 1, 2025, and close on October 31, 2025.

UG (5-Year LL.B)

  • Must have passed (or be appearing in) Class 12 or equivalent.
  • Minimum 45% aggregate marks (40% for SC/ST candidates).
  • No upper age limit.

PG (1-Year LL.M)

  • Must have completed an LL.B degree with 50% marks (45% for SC/ST candidates).
  • Final-year LL.B students may also apply but must produce valid results during admission.

No, there is no upper age limit for either UG or PG CLAT.

  • ₹4,000 for General, OBC, PwD, NRI/OCI/PIO candidates.
  • ₹3,500 for SC/ST/BPL candidates.

  • Duration: 2 hours (120 minutes).
  • Format: Multiple-choice questions (MCQs) with 120 questions.

Marking scheme includes 1 mark per correct answer and a 0.25 mark deduction for each wrong answer.

Yes. Candidates expecting results in April/May 2026 are eligible to apply but must submit proof of qualifying marks by the time of admission.

The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) administers the exam on a rotational basis, except for NLU Delhi and NLU Meghalaya, which conduct their own tests.

CLAT scores are used for:

  • Admissions to UG and PG law programs at participating NLUs.
  • Many private law colleges, PSUs, and Indian Army (JAG Officer recruitment) also accept CLAT scores.
